City of Merkel Municipal Energy Usage for Calendar Year 2017

The City of Merkel purchases natural gas from ATMOS Energy. In Calendar Year 2017, the City purchased a total of 4546 thousand cubic feet (MCF) of natural gas.

The City purchases electricity from GEXA Energy and Taylor Electric Co-operative. In Calendar Year 2017, the City purchased a total of 479,273 kilowatt hours.

The City purchases water from the City of Abilene. In Calendar Year 2017, the City purchased a total of 80,450,000 gallons of water.

The total cost of natural gas, electricity, and water purchased by the City in the Calendar Year 2017 is $557,357.70.

The City Manager is responsible for administering the policy and decisions made by the City Council and overseeing the day-to-day operations of City government.

Merkel is a Type A General Law City with a council-manager form of government, where the manager reports to the City Council and the council votes on the manager’s recommendations.

The City Manager ensures that all City services are delivered in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

The City Secretary is an officer of the City and is responsible for the preservation of city records, attending and accurately recording the minutes of all regular and special meetings. The City Secretary is the custodian of all official records of the City. The City Secretary’s office conducts municipal elections in accordance with local and state law.
